Year in Review: 2014

This year in 2014 was fairly productive. A few new ventures, and a few expansions. Roughly on par with 2013.

DZC: Resistance Reinforcements

Took a break from WoW on Friday and painted up some Resistance stuff that's been sitting on the desk.

Dropzone Commander - Rural Terrain

Commissioned this table of rural terrain from a local lad in PA, and got a chance to try it out yesterday!

Napoleon at War : First Napoleon Test Model

Finally got my Man at War Napoleonic figures in. I will admit, the figure quality is downright poor. I don't know why it's acceptable in historical miniatures to produce such bad figures - you don't see GW, Privateer Press, or any other big name mainstream minis company producing poor figures, and startup companies that do don't stay around for long, but it seems the historical market is just flooded with bad figures.

Sorry, rant over.

Anyway, I got this neat painting guide..."paint by numbers" as a local friend calls it.

Pike and Shotte (kinda): Artillery

Technically these are War of Spanish Succession figures. But no one will know the difference. At least not the people I'm likely to play with.

DZC: Scourge Reinforcements

Expanded my DZC Scourge a bit with two squads of Destroyers, some AA walkers, and 4 light dropships.

All Quiet on the Martian Front: MkIII Steamers

Painting has been scarce recently. A number of things contributing - increased time playing video games, DnD: Attack Wing has tickled my fancy (and involves no painting), and a general slow down on minis releases for the games I'm interested in. However, I recently did a fairly large swap trading off my X-Wing stuff for a large All Quiet on the Martian Front bundle....not that the game is played around here, but they are fun figures to paint up.

First we have nine MkIII steam tanks.

FoW: Great War British

Painted up a bunch of FoW Great War British. The 1500pt army box plus an additional rifle platoon blister.

Mighty Empires Tiles

Finished up a full set of the GW Mighty Empires tiles. Going to be using this for an upcoming By Fire and Sword league...stay tuned!

FoW Great War: Random Battle Pictures from a Cambrai Game

Several weeks ago, Chris ran a big multiplayer Cambrai game at Huzzah, using mostly FoW Great War rules with a bit of FoW1918 mixed in. I intended to do a full scale batrep over on WWPD about it, but too much time passed and I forgot all the play by play details...but it'd be ashame to not at least share the pictures I took!

Myth: Enemy Reinforcements

Painted up some more Myth boardgame pieces. Some slight reinforcements to the existing orcs and crawlers, and added a small amount of two new enemy factions - ratmen and cyclops. I also have some elementals, skeletons, and a wide variety of mini bosses that arrived for me to work on.

FoW Army In a Day - 1750 LW Germans

So I have TONS of Flames of War. Just about every minor nationality you can think of, in addition to all the big Allied ones. The one faction I don't really own much for, though? Germans.

Bolt Action: Polish AK Captured Panther

Won one of Warlord's new plastic panther kits at a tank battles release event. Figured I'd paint it up to go with my Polish AK. (which, coincidentally, haven't seen the table in about a year now).

By Fire and Sword: Ottoman Segban Infantry

Some quick BFAS Ottoman Segban infantry. Progress was delayed by 1) ArcheAge and 2) lack of Dullcote.

Now That's What I Call an Army: UCM Army #2

Still have another 12 stands of Legionnaires to finish, but I won't be getting to them for a long while, and am delivering the rest of the army today, so here's what I got!

DZC: Resistance - Rocket Technicals

First 24 technicals - Rocket Technicals. These came out a bit more "rusted" than I wanted - the Gun technicals on my table have a bit more of the original color left. So, when it comes time for Rocket Technicals #25-48, I'll have to remember to go easier on the weathering to keep them all nice and different.

DZC: Our First Resistance Game

Joe and I played a 1400ish pt game with the new Resistance. We didn't purchase any command levels or use command cards (since they're not out yet for the Resistance), and didn't proxy anything - opting to use the existing releases instead.

Gettin' some of the top notch UCM air support for Alex's UCM army - a Ferrum, two Archangel interceptors, and a Seraphim bomber.

By Fire and Sword: Ottoman Spahis

Trying to knock out some of my Ottoman platoons between DZC Resistance waves arriving here in the U.S. Started off with a platoon of normal spahis with shields. Actually painted these twice - tried to do a "historically accurate" scheme with everyone in the different colored robes, but abandoned it after it was done because I thought it looked like crap.

Photodump: GenCon 2014

Another GenCon behind us. I have returned with a small collection of loot, a slight cold, and an awesome time. The gaming aspect of it absolutely blows every other gaming convention I go to out of the water.

Itty Bitty Tanks: 1:285 Microarmor Cold War Polish

A new scale and a new era. Bought a ton of these guys at Historicon - super cheap at this scale. It's my first experience with 6mm/1:285. I didn't really do a lot on the tanks - basecoat green, airbrush highlight lighter green, drybrush even lighter green, and wash brown. Picked out the tracks and weathered (simply a drybrush - wasn't going to burn powders on this stuff at this scale) and done.

Not a ton of updates recently...

Updates have been sparse. Been occupied with a few projects for other sites. Mainly a lot of the new Flames of War Great War stuff, the first of which are up on WWPD here and the Germans will be up soon. Also some sci-fi stuff that will be revealed shortly. But now that that's all out of the way, I had a frenzy today of working on projects that are all for me!

FoW Great War: The Big Push AAR

Chris and I played our first game of FoW Great War today. Since Chris did a lot of the work on FoW 1918 and WW1 FoW is kinda his "thing", he already had all the figures and terrain ready to go (mostly Peter Pig and Minifigs). So we played a 1500pt game of "The Big Push"

BFAS: Some pics from a recent game

I always start with the best of intentions making a complete battle report on these games I play, and I rarely ever do, since I slack at taking pictures and notes around...oh...the bottom of turn 1. Oh well, figured I'd at least drop these photos here, even if it's not really a batrep.

Dropzone Commander UCM Army #2: Tanks and Transports

More of my friends UCM completed. This gives enough for the army to be legally fielded, although still needs a few more bits for optimization.

Dropzone Commander: UCM Army #2 - More Tanks

Some heavy tanks and a command unit for my friends UCM. Working on infantry now, then dropships by the end of the week so he'll have a playable army.
